On Day 90 of the US-Backed Israeli Genocidal War on Gaza Strip, 13 Massacres, 125 Palestinians Killed, 318 Injured, with a Death Toll of  22,438 and 57,614 Injuries

January 4, 2024

Editor's Notes:

Here are some initial (not final) statistics, which show the Israeli war crimes against humanity, during the current Israeli genocidal war on Gaza Strip:

By January 4, 2024, the initial death toll of Palestinians who have been killed by the Israeli genocidal war on Gaza Strip is 29,438+.

This includes the accounted for deaths (22,438) and those who are still missing under the rubble (Corrected on December 23, 2023: 7,000+).

By January 4, 2024, the documented injuries exceeded 58,614, and more than 2,520 civilians have been abducted from Gaza Strip (80 mutilated corpses were returned on 12/27/23).

By January 4, 2023, the death toll included 9,730+ children and 6,830+ women.

By January 4, 2024, there were 324 Palestinians who were killed, 3,539 who were injured, and 4,953, who were abducted by Israeli occupation forces in the West Bank, since October 7, 2023.

About 12,091 Palestinians, from both the West Bank and Gaza, have been detained in 2023. About half of them were detained after October 7. This included 1,085 children and 300 women.

The total number of detainees in the occupation prisons until the end of December was 8,800, and the number of administrative detainees was 3,291.

***

By December 27 2023,  there was a complete destruction of 65,000+ housing units, and a partial destruction of 290,000+ housing units (60% of Gaza housing units). This forced about 1.5 million people to become homeless, taking refuge in crowded UN schools and ultimately sleeping in the streets.

The Israeli refusal to allow international aid caravans to enter Gaza freely led the Palestinian population to be on the verge of mass extermination for the lack of food, water, medicine, and fuel.

By January 4, 2024, 326 health personnel and 97 journalists were killed and hundreds were injured, 121 ambulances were destroyed while on duty, killing and injuring their crews, and destroyed 150 health institutions. As a result of the strikes and lack of fuel, 30 hospitals and 53 primary care centers are not functioning. In addition, 99 health personnel have been abducted by the invading Israeli occupation forces.

Meanwhile, 126 government offices and 92 schools and universities were completely destroyed, while 285 schools and universities were partially damaged.

115 mosques were completely destroyed, while 200 others were partially damaged, in addition to three churches.

While brutal force has been used to create Zionist Israel and sustain it thus far, Zionist claims to Palestine are false. Actually, from the five thousand years of known written human history, there has been a continuous Palestinian-Canaanite presence in the Holy Land. Despite the Zionist false claims, the ancient Israelites ruled part of the land for only 85 years (during the reign of Prophets David and Solomon , peace be upon them, and Solomon's son).

After that, the Egyptians conquered Palestine-Canaan in 925 BC, followed by Assyrians, Babylonians, Persians, Greeks, and Romans, before the Arab Muslim rule, starting from 636 AD.

By the Time Jesus, peace be upon him, started his mission, the three population groups of Canaanites, Palestinians, and Israelites were melted together in religion and language. Most of them became Christians when Constantine converted in 313 AD. Then, most of them became Muslims in the 7th and 8th centuries AD.

So, Palestinian Muslims, Christians, and Jews are the ones who have the right to claim descent from ancient Israelites, Palestinians, and Canaanites, not Zionists from other continents.

No matter what the Zionists and their supporters do, they cannot change the will of God, Who promised the Holy Land to Abraham and his descendants, basically the Palestinian Muslims and Christians.

No matter how much persecution and aggression the Zionists and their supporters inflict upon the Palestinian people, they will never be able to force them out of the Holy Land, which Allah, praise to Him, promised for them, and kept His promise ever since.

This is a necessary brief background to understand the US-Backed Zionist Israeli continuous wars against the Arab nation generally, and the Palestinian people in particular, which included the wars of 1948, 1956, 1967, 1978, 1982, the brutal crushing of the two Uprisings (1987-1993 and 2000-2004), 2009, 2012, 2014, 2021, and the current genocidal war on Gaza, which has culminated a blockade of Gaza since 2007. In addition, the Israeli occupation and apartheid regime launched so many covert operations, raids, and air strikes on many Arab states since 1948.

The following news stories are just examples, not a systematic record, of the Israeli occupation government abuse, mistreatment, and violations of Palestinian human rights, on daily basis.

Editorial Notes about terms & names of people and places:

1. Names of people and places have been standardized to match standard Arabic grammatical rules.

2. Underlined letters and letters preceded by an apostrophe are references to Arabic letter sounds, which does not exist in the English alphabet.

3. The English letter i is equivalent to the Arabic short vowel known as kasra, as in Ibraheem and Qasim as well as in the English words sit and bit. So, it is incorrect to use it as a long vowel for such Arabic names as Jameel and Jibreel.

4. The English letter e is equivalent to the Arabi short vowel known as fat'ha, as in A'hmed and Mu'hammed.

5. It is more accurate to refer to the land-grabbing Israelis, who establish illegal settlements in the Palestinian territory of the West Bank, as illegal Israeli settlers, than referring to them as colonists.

The term colony is a reference to a large entity or a country, such as American states before independence. It was also a reference to Egypt, and India, when they were British colonies.

In addition, the term "colony" represents a positive nostalgic theme, in the minds of native speakers of English, particularly in America and Britain.

6. It is more accurate to use the verb "abduct" than the verb "detain," in reference to taking Palestinian citizens by force to prisons and interrogation centers, by Israeli occupation regime soldiers. This is because the presence of the Israeli occupation regime forces is illegal in the Palestinian territories, and they have no jurisdiction over the Palestinian people.

UN says "very disturbed" by Israeli calls for people of Gaza to migrate

GENEVA, Thursday, January 4, 2024 (WAFA) -

UN human rights chief Volker Turk said today he was "very disturbed" against the backdrop of comments by senior Israeli officials calling for Palestinians to leave Gaza.

In a tweet on X he wrote: "Very disturbed by high-level Israeli officials’ statements on plans to transfer civilians from #Gaza to third countries. 85 percent of people in Gaza are already internally displaced. They have the right to return to their homes."

He added that “international law prohibits forcible transfer of protected persons within or deportation from occupied territory.”

Earlier this week, Israel’s ultranationalist National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir called for promoting “a solution to encourage the emigration of Gaza’s residents” and the re-establishment of Israeli settlements in the Gaza Strip.

His comments came the day after far-right Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich also called for the return of settlers to Gaza, adding that Israel should “encourage” the territory’s approximately 2.4 million Palestinians to leave.

UNRWA: 1.9 million people in Gaza estimated to be internally displaced

NEW YORK, Thursday, January 4, 2023 (WAFA) –

1.9 million people, or nearly 85 per cent of the total population of Gaza, were estimated to be internally displaced, including some who have been displaced multiple times, as families are forced to move repeatedly in search of safety, according to The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA).

The UNRWA said that nearly 1.4 million internally displaced persons (DPs) are sheltering in 155 UNRWA facilities across all five governorates. Rafah governorate is now the main refuge for those displaced, with over one million people, squeezed into an extremely overcrowded space, following the intensification of hostilities in Khan Younis and Deir al Balah, and the Israeli military’s evacuation orders. Obtaining an accurate figure of the total number of IDPs remains challenging.

It added that the number of IDPs in the northern governorates has not been updated since 12 October, due to access constraints and the security situation preventing verification.

ICJ to hold first hearing on January 11 to consider South Africa’s case against Israel over genocide in Gaza

PRETORIA, Wednesday, January 3, 2023 (WAFA) -

The International Court of Justice (ICJ) will hold its first hearing on Thursday, January 11, to consider the lawsuit filed by the Republic of South Africa against Israel accusing it of crimes of genocide against Palestinians in Gaza.

Spokesperson of the South African Department of International Relations and Cooperation, Clayson Monyela, said in a post on X that the hearing is scheduled for January 11th in The Hague and will continue until the next day. He stressed that his country is continuing with its preparations in this regard.

In a related context, South African Foreign Minister Naledi Pandor called for supporting her country’s genocide case against Israel.

She stressed that ‘we will never forget Palestine’ and will continue the struggle for freedom and justice of the Palestine people before the world to stop the genocide in Gaza, she said.

She stressed the need to struggle to help move the world that failed to stop the massacres committed against Palestinians and to prevent the Israeli occupation from continuing with its crimes.

She explained that the United Nations and its Security Council are thus unable to push the peace process forward and we must fight for action to stop the genocide.

Killing and Injuring of Palestinians in Ghazza (Gaza) by Israeli Occupation Regime Forces

On January 4, 2024, Dr. Ashraf Al-Qidra, the Spokesperson of the Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza announced that the Israeli genocidal air strikes and bombardment on Gaza Strip resulted in 13 massacres, in which  125 Palestinian civilians were killed, and 318 were injured, in the past 24 hours. This increased the death toll in Gaza Strip to 22,438 and the injuries to 57,614, since October 7, 2023 (Note: Palestine Information Center).

Ministry of Health: 22,438 martyrs, 57,000+ wounded in the Israeli ongoing aggression

Thursday 4-January-2024, GAZA, (PIC)

Israeli occupation forces committed 13 massacres against Palestinian families, resulting in the death of 125 citizens and 318 injuries in the past 24 hours in the Gaza Strip.

The spokesman for the Ministry of Health, Ashraf al-Qidra, stated in a press conference on the 90th day of the brutal Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip Thursday that the death toll of the Israeli aggression since last October 7th has risen to 22,438 martyrs and 57,614 injuries.

He confirmed that 70% of the victims of the Israeli aggression are children and women. He pointed out that Israeli violations against the health system have led to the martyrdom of 326 health personnel and the destruction of 121 ambulances.

Al-Qidra affirmed that the Israeli occupation army deliberately targeted 150 health institutions, causing 30 hospitals and 53 health centers to go out of service in all areas of the Gaza Strip.

He said, “The Israeli occupation army still detains 99 health personnel, including hospital directors in northern Gaza, in oppressive and inhumane conditions and subjected to physical and psychological torture and starvation.”

He warned that the criminal behavior of the Israeli occupation forces poses a threat to the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital and the Al-Awda Hospital in the central region.

The spokesman warned that the Nasser Medical Complex and the Al-Amal Hospital, operated by the Palestinian Red Crescent Society in Khan Yunis, are repeatedly targeted and are in danger.

He called on international institutions to urgently act to protect hospitals in the southern Gaza Strip, secure the arrival of the wounded and patients to them, and ensure that the scenario of the Al-Shifa Medical Complex is not repeated.

He underlined that during the continuous Israeli aggression for the past three months, the infrastructure of hospitals in Gaza and northern Gaza was deliberately destroyed, revealing ongoing efforts with the World Health Organization and partner institutions to carry out urgent interventions to operate the services of the Al-Shifa Medical Complex and the health system in northern Gaza, provide medication, fuel, and protection for it and its staff, and secure access routes to serve the needs of 800,000 people.

Al-Qidra called on international institutions to send medical teams and field hospitals and ensure their access to all areas of the Gaza Strip to save thousands of wounded.

He pointed out that 1.9 million displaced people are exposed to famine, the spread of epidemics and infectious diseases, lack of shelter, water, food, and medicine.

He warned of a health and humanitarian catastrophe that cannot be described or tolerated in the city of Rafa'h after more than half of the population of the Gaza Strip has been displaced to it under harsh conditions of the collapse of health and environmental services and the absence of the minimum living conditions.

Al-Qidra called on international institutions to create effective mechanisms to ensure the performance of their required humanitarian tasks to prevent the humanitarian, health, and environmental catastrophe in the shelters and provide proper healthcare and food for children, pregnant women, and patients with chronic diseases.

He pointed out that the Ministry of Health has been able to establish 35 medical points with limited resources to provide health care for the displaced in Rafah shelters, and it is working with its partners to establish more medical points in the central area, Khan Younus, and Rafa'h.

The spokesman emphasized that the low level of entry of medical aid into the Gaza Strip confirms that the Israeli occupation uses it as a weapon to kill the wounded, calling on various parties to create effective and capable mechanisms to respond to the urgent and immediate needs to save the lives of thousands of wounded and patients.

GAZA, Thursday, January 4, 2023 (WAFA) –

Israeli airstrikes claim six innocent lives, injure several others in Gaza

GAZA, Thursday, January 4, 2024 (WAFA) —

At least six Palestinian civilians lost their lives and several others sustained injuries this evening, as Israeli airstrikes continued to target homes across the Gaza Strip for the 90th consecutive day, according to local and medical sources.

In Khan Younus, southern Gaza, an Israeli airstrike claimed the life of one Palestinian and left numerous others wounded in the vicinity of the European Hospital. Simultaneously, fighter jets flattened to the ground a residence belonging to the Kawara' family in the eastern part of the city.

Earlier, five Palestinians were killed, with several more injured, as Israeli occupation forces targeted a vehicle in the Nusayrat refugee camp in central Gaza. The attack on the vehicle resulted in casualties, adding to the escalating toll of civilian lives affected by the recent wave of airstrikes.

Preliminary estimates by local health authorities indicate that over 22,300 people, the majority of them being children and women, have been killed since the onset of the Israeli onslaught on Gaza on October 7. Over 57,200 others have been injured, with nearly 7,000 individuals unaccounted for.

The situation in Gaza remains dire as civilians bear the brunt of the Israeli military's aerial and ground offensive. Humanitarian concerns are mounting as the Israeli genocide persists, prompting urgent calls for international intervention to protect the lives of innocent civilians.

Israeli strikes continue to target vicinity of Al-Amal hospital, headquarters of Palestinian Red Crescent in Gaza

GAZA, Wednesday, January 3, 2023 (WAFA) -

The Palestinian Red Crescent Society (PRCS) said tonight that the Israeli occupation forces continued tonight the artillery bombardment of several houses and sites in and around the Al-Amal Hospital and the PRCS headquarters in the city of Khan Younus in the southern Gaza Strip, causing fragments to fall near the ambulance center and the headquarters of the said hospital.

PRCS stressed in a statement that violent artillery fire against targets less than a hundred meters away from the hospital is increasing.

It added that these violations continue unabated since yesterday's direct targeting of the eighth and seventh floors of the PRCS headquarters, which shelters thousands of displaced people, resulting in the killing of five people, including a newborn less than five days old, and the injury of three others.

PRCS said the occupation’s targeting of its transmission tower is hampering the work of the ambulance crews, especially in light of losing all means of communications with Khan Younus government, in the southern Strip.

Since the start of Israel’s all-out aggression against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank on October 7th, hospitals, medical facilities and ambulances, which are protected under international law, have not been spared from the occupation’s targeting; through shelling, the imposition of sieges and the killing and detention of medical personnel.

Tuesday afternoon, Israeli occupation jets shelled the seventh and eighth floors of PRCS headquarters in Khan Yunis, where thousands of displaced persons are seeking refuge, killing and injuring several people, including the newborn.

Three civilians were killed in an airstrike that targeted a group of civilians in the Khirbat Al-'Adas area, in Rafa'h City, in southern Gaza.

Braijiyah added that not only the soldiers arrested the boy, but also confiscated 60 sheep that he was grazing in the area.

He pointed out that these increasing assaults reflect the brutality of the occupation towards our people wherever they are, as the Israeli occupation attempts to impose its fait accompli on the local Palestinian population amid these challenging times.

Names of 51 female Gazan detainees in one Israeli prison revealed

RAMALLAH, Thursday, January 4, 2023 (WAFA) –

The Commission of Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs and the Palestinian Prisoner's Society (PPS) have on Thursday revealed the names of 51 female detainees from Gaza, who are being held in the Israeli prison of Damon.

The Commission and the PPS explained in a press statement that these names were the only names available until the end of last week, including elderly women and children, adding that the number of female detainees from Gaza is higher than this, but the clear data relates to the female detainees in Damoun prison only.

The statement indicated that only their names are available about the detainees, and some data provided by the detainees about their conditions, as they face abuse and humiliation over time, adding that they are detained in tragic conditions, like all Gaza detainees, as the institutions were not able to know any accurate data about their numbers, their places of detention, or their health conditions, because the occupation continues to practice the crime of enforced disappearance against them, and prevents legal teams affiliated with human rights institutions from visiting them and learning about their conditions, and also refuses to allow the International Committee of the Red Cross to visit them.

The statement pointed out that the only data announced by the occupation prisons administration was the presence of 661 Gaza detainees, whom it classified as “unlawful combatants.”

It is noteworthy that many testimonies were carried by Gaza detainees, after their release, and reflected a high level of torture and abuse carried out by the occupation army against them, which was visible on their bodies immediately after their release, in addition to the occupation media revealing the killing of a group of Gaza detainees in the Sde Teman camp in the Beersheba area, without revealing their identities, noting that the occupation recently admitted to executing a Gaza detainee.

Since the beginning of its aggression against the Gaza Strip, the occupation authorities have implemented some military orders and legal amendments related to Gaza detainees, which contribute to the implementation of more crimes against them, especially in light of their continued denial of access to a lawyer.

It is noteworthy that the total number of detainees in the occupation prisons until the end of December was 8,800, and the number of administrative detainees was 3,291.

Aggression and Attacks by Illegal Israeli Settlers and Soldiers

Israeli occupation forces begin works on settler-only roads near Hebron

Al-Khaleel (Hebron), Thursday, January 4, 2023 (WAFA) –

The Israeli occupation forces began constructing colonial roads on citizens’ lands in Al-Khaleel's (Hebron's), Masafir Yatta.

Coordinator of the Popular and National Committees to Resist the Wall and Settlements, Ratib Al-Jubour, said that the occupation forces are working to build new colonial roads and complete other roads at the expense of Palestinian lands in Masafir Yatta.

He explained that these roads are located between the areas of Al-Tha'la and Umm Al-Khair, east of Yatta, in order to connect the illegal Carmiel and Ma'on settlements, and another road between the Bnei Hefer illegal settlement and the Birin area, northeast of Yatta, and a third road between the Otnael illegal settlement, west of Yatta towards Khallet Al-Farra.

He pointed out that the occupation fired a heavy barrage of sound bombs and poisonous gas towards civilians in Al-Thaala area, east of Yatta, who were there to protest the construction of colonial roads in their lands.

In the same context, a colonist fired bullets at sheep herders from the Al-Mahaina family in the Labwaib area, east of Yatta, and detained their sheep, in an attempt to force them to leave their lands and pastures for the benefit of the colonists.

Violent settler attack leaves Palestinian man injured in Bait La'hm (Bethlehem)

Bait La'hm (Bethlehem), Thursday, January 4, 2024 (WAFA) –

A Palestinian man sustained fractures, injuries, and bruises today following a brutal assault by illegal Israeli settlers in the wilderness of the village of Kisan, located east of Bethlehem in the occupied West Bank, according to local sources.

Musa E'bayyat, the head of the Kisan Village Council, informed WAFA that the illegal Israeli settlers attacked Ibrahim Sawarka, 40, and his family while they were in their tent in the wilderness of the village.

The assailants mercilessly beat him and unleashed police dogs on him, resulting in bites on his feet leading to fractures and inflicting wounds and bruises all over his body.

He was promptly transported to a hospital in nearby Bethlehem for necessary medical treatment. Additionally, the attackers destroyed all the contents of the tent, E'bayyat added.

This latest terror assault by settlers is not an isolated incident; it is part of a series of Israeli state-sponsored attacks targeting innocent Palestinian civilians across the occupied West Bank. These attacks have included burning tents, demolishing agricultural structures, and confiscating livestock.
