On Day 83 of US-Backed Israeli Genocidal War on Gaza Strip, 20 Massacres, Raising Palestinian Death Toll to  21,320 and 55,603 Injuries

December 28, 2023

***

Editor's Notes:

Here are some initial (not final) statistics, which show the Israeli war crimes against humanity, during the current Israeli genocidal war on Gaza Strip:

By December 28, 2023, the initial death toll of Palestinians who have been killed by the Israeli genocidal war on Gaza Strip is 28,320+.

This includes the accounted for deaths (21,320) and those who are still missing under the rubble (Corrected on December 23, 2023: 7,000+).

By December 28, 2023, the documented injuries exceeded 55,603, and more than 2,520 civilians have been abducted from Gaza Strip (80 mutilated corpses were returned on 12/27/23).

By December 28, 2023, there were 315 Palestinians who were killed, 3,524 who were injured, and 4,826, who were abducted by Israeli occupation forces in the West Bank, since October 7, 2023.

***

By December 28, 2023, the death toll included 8,800+ children and 6,300+ women.

By December 27 2023,  there was a complete destruction of 65,000+ housing units, and a partial destruction of 290,000+ housing units (60% of Gaza housing units). This forced about 1.5 million people to become homeless, taking refuge in crowded UN schools and ultimately sleeping in the streets.

The Israeli refusal to allow international aid caravans to enter Gaza freely led the Palestinian population to be on the verge of mass extermination for the lack of food, water, medicine, and fuel.

By December 28, 2023, 312 health personnel and 97 journalists were killed and hundreds were injured, 104 ambulances were destroyed while on duty, killing and injuring their crews, and destroyed 142 health institutions. As a result of the strikes and lack of fuel, 23 hospitals and 53 primary care centers are not functioning.

Meanwhile, 126 government offices and 92 schools and universities were completely destroyed, while 285 schools and universities were partially damaged.

115 mosques were completely destroyed, while 200 others were partially damaged, in addition to three churches.

While brutal force has been used to create Zionist Israel and sustain it thus far, Zionist claims to Palestine are false. Actually, from the five thousand years of known written human history, there has been a continuous Palestinian-Canaanite presence in the Holy Land. Despite the Zionist false claims, the ancient Israelites ruled part of the land for only 85 years (during the reign of Prophets David and Solomon , peace be upon them, and Solomon's son).

After that, the Egyptians conquered Palestine-Canaan in 925 BC, followed by Assyrians, Babylonians, Persians, Greeks, and Romans, before the Arab Muslim rule, starting from 636 AD.

By the Time Jesus, peace be upon him, started his mission, the three population groups of Canaanites, Palestinians, and Israelites were melted together in religion and language. Most of them became Christians when Constantine converted in 313 AD. Then, most of them became Muslims in the 7th and 8th centuries AD.

So, Palestinian Muslims, Christians, and Jews are the ones who have the right to claim descent from ancient Israelites, Palestinians, and Canaanites, not Zionists from other continents.

No matter what the Zionists and their supporters do, they cannot change the will of God, Who promised the Holy Land to Abraham and his descendants, basically the Palestinian Muslims and Christians.

No matter how much persecution and aggression the Zionists and their supporters inflict upon the Palestinian people, they will never be able to force them out of the Holy Land, which Allah, praise to Him, promised for them, and kept His promise ever since.

This is a necessary brief background to understand the US-Backed Zionist Israeli continuous wars against the Arab nation generally, and the Palestinian people in particular, which included the wars of 1948, 1956, 1967, 1978, 1982, the brutal crushing of the two Uprisings (1987-1993 and 2000-2004), 2009, 2012, 2014, 2021, and the current genocidal war on Gaza. In addition, the Israeli occupation and apartheid regime launched so many covert operations, raids, and air strikes on many Arab states since 1948.

The following news stories are just examples, not a systematic record, of the Israeli occupation government abuse, mistreatment, and violations of Palestinian human rights, on daily basis.

Editorial Notes about terms & names of people and places:

1. Names of people and places have been standardized to match standard Arabic grammatical rules.

2. Underlined letters and letters preceded by an apostrophe are references to Arabic letter sounds, which does not exist in the English alphabet.

3. The English letter i is equivalent to the Arabic short vowel known as kasra, as in Ibraheem and Qasim as well as in the English words sit and bit. So, it is incorrect to use it as a long vowel for such Arabic names as Jameel and Jibreel.

4. The English letter e is equivalent to the Arabi short vowel known as fat'ha, as in A'hmed and Mu'hammed.

5. It is more accurate to refer to the land-grabbing Israelis, who establish illegal settlements in the Palestinian territory of the West Bank, as illegal Israeli settlers, than referring to them as colonists.

The term colony is a reference to a large entity or a country, such as American states before independence. It was also a reference to Egypt, and India, when they were British colonies.

In addition, the term "colony" represents a positive nostalgic theme, in the minds of native speakers of English, particularly in America and Britain.

6. It is more accurate to use the verb "abduct" than the verb "detain," in reference to taking Palestinian citizens by force to prisons and interrogation centers, by Israeli occupation regime soldiers. This is because the presence of the Israeli occupation regime forces is illegal in the Palestinian territories, and they have no jurisdiction over the Palestinian people.

Palestinian Red Crescent denounces Israel’s targeting of Al-Amal Hospital, calls for urgent protection

GAZA, Thursday, December 28, 2023 (WAFA) -

The Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS) condemned today’s Israeli occupation bombing near the Society’s Al-Amal Hospital in Khan Younus in the south of the Gaza Strip, which led to the death of 10 people and the injury of at least 21 others, which comes after the occupation army yesterday bombed in front of the hospital, which led to the death of 31 people and the injury of 25 others, the majority of them are displaced people taking shelter in the PRCS headquarters and the hospital, which houses about 14,000 displaced persons who took refuge in it as a safe haven after they were forced to leave their homes as a result of the continued Israeli bombing.

PRCS expressed in a statement today its deep concern for the safety of its staff working in the hospital and the Society’s headquarters, especially since today’s targeting is considered the fifth on the hospital and its surroundings in less than a week. The day before yesterday, the occupation forces targeted the upper floors of the Society’s headquarters with artillery shelling, which led to several injuries among the displaced persons and the destruction of its VHF antenna considered the only means of communication in light of the communications outage, which poses a major challenge for ambulance and emergency crews in reaching the wounded and sick. A few days ago, a drone shot a 13-year-old displaced child while he was inside the building, leading to his death.

“The occupation’s intensification of targeting the vicinity of Al-Amal Hospital during the past days may be considered a prelude to targeting it directly, and we fear it will face what happened to Al-Quds Hospital affiliated with the PRCS in Gaza City, which became out of service as a result of the targeting, the siege, and the prevention of humanitarian and medical supplies,” PRCS said in its statement.

It appealed to the international community and partners in the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement to intervene immediately and urgently to protect Al-Amal Hospital and to protect its medical staff, the wounded, the sick, and about 14,000 displaced persons, in accordance with international humanitarian law and the Fourth Geneva Convention.

UN report warns of rapidly deteriorating human rights situation in West Bank, calls for end to unlawful killings

GENEVA, Thursday, December 28, 2023 (WAFA) –

A United Nations report released today details the rapidly deteriorating human rights situation in the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem, after 7 October, and calls on Israel to end unlawful killings and settler violence against the Palestinian population.

The report calls for an immediate end to the use of military weapons and means during law enforcement operations, an end to arbitrary detention and ill-treatment of Palestinians, and the lifting of discriminatory movement restrictions.

The UN Human Rights Office has verified the deaths of 300 Palestinians from 7 October to 27 December - including 79 children - in the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem, since October 7. Of these, Israeli occupation forces killed at least 291 Palestinians, settlers killed eight, and one Palestinian was killed either by Israeli forces or settlers. Prior to 7 October, 200 Palestinians had already been killed in the area in 2023 - the highest number in a 10-month period since the UN began keeping records in 2005.

“The use of military tactics means and weapons in law enforcement contexts, the use of unnecessary or disproportionate force, and the enforcement of broad, arbitrary and discriminatory movement restrictions that affect Palestinians are extremely troubling,” said UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk, reflecting on the findings of the report.

“The violations documented in this report repeat the pattern and nature of violations reported in the past in the context of the long-standing Israeli occupation of the West Bank. However, the intensity of the violence and repression is something that has not been seen in years,” he added.

“I call on Israel to take immediate, clear and effective steps to put an end to settler violence against the Palestinian population, to investigate all incidents of violence by settlers and Israeli Security Forces, to ensure effective protection of Palestinian communities against any form of forcible transfer, and to ensure the ability of herding communities displaced due to repeated attacks by armed settlers to return to their lands.”

The report, which covered the period from 7 October to 20 November, described a sharp increase in airstrikes as well as in incursions by armored personnel carriers and bulldozers sent to refugee camps and other densely populated areas in the West Bank, resulting in deaths, injuries and extensive damage to civilian objects and infrastructure. These incursions, which continue to take place, have resulted in the death of at least 105 Palestinians, among them 23 children, since 7 October up to today.

In one of these instances, on 19 and 20 October, during a 30-hour-long incursion into Nour Shams Refugee Camp in Tulkarm, Israeli forces using military weaponry and means of engagement killed 14 Palestinians, including six children, wounded at least 20 others, and arrested 10 Palestinians, the report said.

Israeli occupation forces have arrested more than 4,700 Palestinians, including about 40 journalists, in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem. Some were stripped naked, blindfolded and restrained for long hours with handcuffs and with their legs tied, while Israeli soldiers stepped on their heads and backs, were spat at, slammed against walls, threatened, insulted, humiliated and in some cases subjected to sexual and gender-based violence, the report describes.

In the weeks following 7 October, there has also been a sharp rise in settler attacks with an average of six incidents per day, such as shootings, burning of homes and vehicles, and uprooting of trees. In many incidents, settlers were accompanied by Israeli soldiers, or were themselves wearing army uniforms, and carrying army rifles, the report said. The UN Human Rights Office documented multiple incidents of settlers attacking Palestinians harvesting their olives, including with firearms, and forcing them to leave their land, stealing their harvest and poisoning or vandalizing their olive trees, depriving many Palestinians of a vital source of income.

“The dehumanization of Palestinians that characterizes many of the settlers' actions is very disturbing and must cease immediately. Israeli authorities should strongly censure and prevent settler violence and prosecute both its instigators and perpetrators,” said the UN Human Rights Chief.

Since 7 October, Israeli authorities have imposed severe and systematic restrictions on the movement of Palestinians across the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, the report said. The ISF has closed almost all entrances to Palestinian villages and towns to vehicular access and disconnected Palestinian cities and towns from main roads by closing road gates and placing earth mounds or concrete roadblocks.

“The report reiterates our calls for a halt to measures that lead to the creation of a coercive environment and concerns regarding forcible transfer, in addition to the continued lack of accountability for settler and ISF violence,” said Türk.

The High Commissioner urged Israel to grant the UN Human Rights Office access to the country.

Human rights defender Ayman Lubbad speaks of his detention by Israeli occupying forces in Gaza

RAMALLAH, Thursday, December 28, 2023 (WAFA) -

The Israeli occupation forces (IOF) have been carrying out mass detentions of Palestinians since the start of their ground invasion of the Gaza Strip, said The Palestinian Centre for Human Rights, Al Mezan, and Al-Haq in a statement.

A military chief of the IOF announced that, as of 17 December 2023, they had taken over a thousand Palestinians captive in Gaza. This announcement followed the emergence of photos and videos on social media platforms, exposing the inhuman and degrading treatment of Palestinians in the city of Bait Lahya, in the northern Gaza Strip. The published pictures and videos showed hundreds of detainees—including children—forced to sit on the street, half-naked and stripped of their clothes in harsh weather conditions, before being transferred in packed Israeli military trucks to unknown locations.

Among those detainees was Ayman Lubbad, a researcher in the Economic, Social, and Cultural Rights Unit at the Palestinian Centre for Human Rights (PCHR), who was staying at his family home in the northern city of Bait Lahya. He was detained on 7 December 2023 and was released at the Karm Abu Salim (Kerem Shalom) crossing south of the Gaza Strip on 14 December 2023. Currently, he finds himself in Rafah city, separated from his wife and three children. For almost a week, no one had any information on Ayman’s whereabouts or well-being.

In a testimony, Ayman recounted the dreadful experience he had to endure, exemplifying the inhumane and degrading treatment that Palestinian detainees in Gaza have been subjected to in different Israeli detention facilities:

“On 7 December 2023, at approximately 10:00 am, we heard the IOF ordering people, through loudspeakers, to leave their houses and ‘surrender’ themselves. Women and the elderly were instructed to go to Kamal 'Adwan Hospital, while men and boys as young as 14 were instructed to strip and kneel in the street.

“Israeli soldiers shot our neighbor, Mu'hammed Al-Ka'hlout, injuring his hand. They inappropriately photographed us while we were half-naked and forced some of us to dance. They also burned the houses belonging to Al-Muqayd, Mahdi, Al-Ka'hlout, and Sorour families in front of us.

“On the same day at noon, we were taken to the Zikim area by the sea, where we remained until late at night. I learned later that some detainees were released. They took the rest of us to Ofekim military base, handcuffed and blindfolded. As soon as we arrived there, I was given the number 059775 and brought before an interrogator to provide my personal information. Upon learning that I work for a human rights organization, the interrogator threateningly said: ‘I will teach you your rights very well in prison.’

“Later, we were taken to a detention facility designated for Gaza detainees. It was surrounded by barbed wires and had two high places for the emplacement of soldiers. There were 500-700 detainees with one bathroom for each place.

“The IOF were abusing us on a daily basis from around 5:00 am until midnight. We were only allowed to sit on our knees. Any attempt to change the position or remove the blindfold was faced with a severe punishment, including standing with hands raised above the head for over three hours. I, along with a group of detainees, was transferred to a similar place about which we had no information. We could hear the drones taking off and landing. During my transfer, I was beaten by Israeli soldiers several times for no reason. They hit me continuously on my rib cage. I could not sleep for two nights because of the severity of the pain.

“On Monday, 11 December, I was transferred to a new detention facility, it was better than the previous two places. We were held inside the detention facility without being handcuffed or blindfolded, able to move and sleep without much disturbance from the soldiers. I later learned from some detainees that we were in a place located in Jabal Al Mukabbir in Jerusalem.

“At noon of the same day, I underwent an interrogation that lasted until 10 pm, a continuous interrogation session. The interrogator took my personal data and began the interrogation by saying that he was mentally ill and off medication. He insisted that his questions were accurate and demanded that I tell him all the information I had about members of Hamas and Islamic Jihad. He delved into the nature of my work at PCHR and sought my opinion about what happened on 7 October. He said that they would start to treat the people of Gaza like ‘dogs.’

“The interrogator questioned and pressed me on extended relatives and their alleged relationship with Hamas. I tried to explain to him that I do not have answers to his questions due to my weak and limited social interaction I have with these distant family members. He threatened me, cursed me, and hit me in the face. As he became angrier he kept on repeating the same questions. He demanded that I try to remember. He kept on coming in and going out of the room. Each time he left the room, he covered my eyes with a blindfold.

“The last time he returned, I repeated to him that I did not have any information or details. At the end of the interrogation, he got up, angrily, blindfolded me, and violently took me out of the building. I stayed for about an hour in the open air sitting on my knees blindfolded. I could not bear the extreme cold, several soldiers came and beat me, and told me ‘Every dog has its day’.

I could hear other detainees screaming as they were getting beaten in a way that was worse than the beating I had to endure.  Around an hour later, I was taken back to the detention area. Most of those detained with me were workers from Gaza who were arrested in Israel after the 7th of October and Palestinians arrested from the so-called ‘humanitarian corridor’ on Salah-Al-Deen Street, which Israel opened for civilians moving from the north to the south of Gaza. Most of the detainees have been detained for about 30-40 days.

“Late on Wednesday night, 13 December 2023, they woke us up while sleeping to count the number of detainees. We noticed that they had brought several handcuffs along with other boxes which turned out to be containing the detainees’ belongings. Civilian buses appeared, so we knew that they would release us. When we got on the bus, the soldiers put cuffs on our hands and legs. Every two detainees were tied together.

“On Thursday, 14 December 2023, at approximately midnight, the buses started moving from the detention facility until we reached the Karm Abu Salem crossing, east of Rafa'h, at approximately 05:00 am. They removed the cuffs from our hands and legs. We got out of the bus and started walking towards the Palestinian side. I had nothing in my possession except my ID card. I contacted my family members who remained in the Bait Lahya area to inform them that I got out and went to look for my displaced relatives in the city of Rafa'h.”

Ayman’s case is exemplary of the inhumane and degrading treatment as well as torture that Palestinian detainees are subjected to. Hundreds (actually more than 2,520 by 12/27/2023) of Palestinians from Gaza are believed to be still detained in Israeli detention facilities and their place of detention and fate are unknown. Israeli media has reported the death of six Palestinians in Israeli prisons since the 7th of October with at least two dying in Israeli detention facilities, said the Palestinian Centre for Human Rights, Al Mezan, and Al-'Haq. “Our organizations express their deep concern over the detainee’s safety and health,” they added.

The three human rights organization’s lawyers tried to contact the Israeli occupying forces to request information on Palestinian detainees, but the Israeli occupation regime refused to divulge any information about who is being detained and in what conditions, “a conduct which amounts to enforced disappearance,” they said. “As proven from Ayman’s case, there is strong evidence which suggests that they may be subjected to systematic torture.”

The Palestinian Centre for Human Rights, Al Mezan, and Al-'Haq reiterated their demand for an end of the enforced disappearance of hundreds of Palestinian detainees, including dozens of women, from Gaza, and that their whereabouts and names be revealed, as well as the immediate halt to the ongoing torture and abuse during arbitrary arrest and detention of people from Gaza, and the Palestinian detainees and prisoners in general.

“We reiterate our call on the relevant international organizations and the international community to intervene promptly to protect Palestinian civilians and exert pressure on the Israeli authorities to release all arbitrarily detained Palestinians,” they said.

Killing and Injuring of Palestinians in Ghazza (Gaza) by Israeli Occupation Regime Forces

ýOn December 28, 2023, Dr. Ashraf Al-Qidra, the Spokesperson of the Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza announced that the Israeli genocidal air strikes and bombardment on Gaza Strip resulted in the killing of 210 Palestinian civilians and injuring of 360, in the past 24 hours. This increased the death toll in Gaza Strip to 21,320, and the injuries to 55,603, since October 7, 2023.

21,320 Palestinians killed in Israeli 83-day genocide war

Thursday 28-December-2023, GAZA, (PIC)

The Palestinian Health Ministry said that Israeli occupation forces (IOF) have carried out 20 massacres over the past 24 hours against entire families in Gaza, claiming the lives of 210 people and injuring 360 others.

The medical authorities affirmed that the toll of Israeli aggression on Gaza had risen to 21,320 victims and 55,603 wounded since October 7.

Spokesman for the Health Ministry Ashraf al-Qidra indicated that 312 health personnel were killed during the Israeli attacks, while hundreds more were injured.

The Israeli occupation deliberately targeted 142 medical facilities, put 23 hospitals and 53 primary care centers out of service, and destroyed 104 ambulances, he added

Al-Qudra also pointed out that Israel is still detaining 99 health personnel from the Gaza Strip, including the directors of hospitals in northern Gaza, Dr. Mu'hammed Abu Salmiya, Dr. A'hmed Al-Ka'hlout, and Dr. A'hmed Muhanna, in inhumane conditions and subjecting them to severe torture and abuse.

He pointed out that the Israeli occupation targeted the vicinity of the Nasser Medical Complex and the Al-Amal Hospital affiliated with the Red Crescent Society in Khan Yunis several times, warning of repeating the same scenario of what happened to Al-Shifa Medical Complex.

He called on international institutions to take effective and urgent steps to ensure the protection of Nasser Medical Complex, its personnel, the wounded and patients, and thousands of displaced people there.

Al-Qidra stated that the Ministry received several specialized medical teams in cooperation with international institutions to support Gaza’s exhausted medical staff, calling for allowing the entry of more specialized teams to save the lives of the thousands of wounded.

Since Oct. 7, the Israeli occupation army has launched a bloody aggression on the Gaza Strip, causing a severe humanitarian and health catastrophe.

Gaza holocaust: Day 83 of the Israeli aggression

Thursday 28-December-2023, GAZA, (PIC)

The Israeli occupation army continues to carry out its brutal aggression on the Gaza Strip for the 83rd consecutive day Thursday, through dozens of airstrikes and artillery shelling, committing bloody massacres against civilians, conducting field executions, and horrendous crimes in the infiltration areas as part of its genocide, amidst a catastrophic humanitarian situation resulting from the siege and the displacement of over 90% of the population.

Our correspondents reported that the Israeli warplanes and artillery continued their intense airstrikes and shelling on various areas of the Gaza Strip over the past 24 hours, targeting houses, gatherings, facilities, and streets, resulting in hundreds of martyrs and casualties.

The Palestinian Red Crescent Society announced the martyrdom of eight people and the injury of others due to an Israeli shelling near Al-Amal Hospital, affiliated with the society, in Khan Younus, which shelters thousands of displaced people.

Media sources reported the martyrdom of journalist Ahmed Khair Al-Deen, a cameraman for Al-Quds TV channel, indicating that his body is still under the rubble of his house along with 12 martyrs from his family and 9 martyrs from the neighbors, as a result of Israeli shelling yesterday in the Bait Lahya project in northern Gaza.

Several citizens were injured after targeting an agricultural land inhabited by displaced people in tents in Al-Zahra, north of Rafa'h.

Martyrs and injuries were reported as a result of the Israeli occupation forces’ targeting of a house and a civilian car in the Al-Mashal'ha neighborhood in Dair El-Bala'h in the central Gaza Strip.

Medical sources reported the arrival of 17 martyrs as a result of Israeli airstrikes last night and early this morning in Nusayrat, Dear El-Bala'h, and Al-Maghazi in the central Gaza Strip.

Artillery shelling continues towards various areas in central Khan Younus and its east.

Family sources reported the martyrdom of four young men, who were martyred due to Israeli shelling on the house of Sheikh Hassan Abu Shaqra in Al-Shaikh Nasir in Khan Younis last evening. Their bodies have not reached the hospital due to the inability of ambulances to reach the area.

Incursions

Israeli occupation forces continue their incursions on several fronts in the Gaza Strip amidst fierce clashes in those areas.

Our correspondents reported that the occupation forces are committing horrendous crimes within the infiltration areas, including field executions, raiding houses and facilities, looting and destroying them, besieging thousands of citizens in their homes, depriving them of food, water, and healthcare services.

There are injuries and martyrs in houses and streets that medical teams cannot reach. The occupation forces are also carrying out random arrest operations against citizens, accompanied by widespread harassment.

Israeli airstrikes claim lives of at least 16 civilians in Rafa'h

GAZA, Thursday, December 28, 2023 (WAFA) –

At least 16 civilians were confirmed dead and dozens more injured as a result of Israeli airstrikes targeting a residential building in the southern Gaza Strip city of Rafa'h, according to local and medical reports.

Furthermore, another Israeli aerial assault resulted in the destruction of the Al-Taqwa Mosque, located east of the Al-Shaikh Radhwan neighborhood in northern Gaza City.

In a preliminary toll, the ongoing Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip since October 7 has resulted in the tragic loss of over 21,500 lives and left around 54,000 wounded, with over 70% of them being women and children. Nearly 7,000 people are also unaccounted for beneath the debris.

Illegal Israeli settlers expand agricultural road on Palestinian lands near Bethlehem

BETHLEHEM, Thursday, December 28, 2023 (WAFA) –

Illegal Israeli settlers today embarked on the expansion of a settler-only agricultural road in the vicinity of the village of Batteer, to the west of Bethlehem in the occupied West Bank, encroaching upon lands belonging to local Palestinian residents.

According to Hassan Braijiya, the director of the Wall and Settlement Resistance Commission in Bethlehem, colonial Israeli settlers began the expansion of an agricultural road in the area, spanning a length of 500 meters. The expansion is purportedly aimed at enlarging an existing settlement outpost established in the region.

Braijiya further explained that a group of settlers had seized agricultural plots in the Al-Makhrour area of the village several years ago, erecting mobile homes on the confiscated land.

The incident is part of a broader trend of illegal settler activities that have been met with international condemnation for their impact on the rights and livelihoods of the native Palestinian communities.
